William de Yaxley School eco garden blooms thanks to local sponsorship
The community at William de Yaxley school in Peterborough have been enjoying the fruits of their labour after planting an eco garden.

The eco garden project, which was the brainchild of midday supervisor Mrs Howe was made possible after donations from a local garden centre.
Children and staff have been able to grow a host of foods, including herbs, tomatoes and strawberries after the garden centre offered to sponsor the project and donated generous amounts of plants, seeds and equipment.
Headteacher Kay Corley explained: “Our wonderful eco-garden has been supported by a very caring midday supervisor Mrs Howe, who has helped lead this and given lots of her time to make it a success and we are very grateful.
“It’s also been very much child-led with the children really throwing themselves in and making this a big part of their school experience this year. They have loved making items for the bugs and birds, planting and seeing the garden come to life.”
The eco-garden has burst into bloom over spring and summer, with planters full of flowers including petunias and geraniums.
Pupils have spent time creating bird feeders from recycled objects such as yogurt pots and plastic bottles to help encourage more wildlife to the school.
Mrs Corley added: “It’s been great to see the children scavenging for garden debris which could be repurposed and learning about how these discarded objects can be re-used in a positive way. They are now hoping to welcome much more wildlife to the school’s hedgerows and develop a wonderful eco-system to grow with and learn from.
“A big thank you to everyone who has helped us develop the garden and in particular for the generous sponsorship from Dobbies Garden Centre and the support from Mrs Howe.
Mrs Corley says the school’s eco garden will be watered and looked after over the summer holiday and the children are looking forward to gardening again through autumn and winter.
